The pups parents -Sire (Dad) & Dam (Mum)

1.    The combination of the sire and dam is what the sum of your pup is made of.  Overly aggressive parents may mean your pup could have an unsociable attitude.  Therefore, if you visit the parents of your prospective puppy and they greet you with bared teeth and a growl I would consider passing on the pup.

2.    The front legs of the sire and dam should be nice and straight if viewed from the front or side.  Cabriole fronts (bent legs) in the parents are usually passed on to the offspring.  This is not a feature that one should want in any type of dog, especially an active terrier.  Don't purchase such an animal if you are considering breeding.

3.    A good scissor bite is what's needed in any breed.  Inspect the sire and dam for a good bite.  This does not necessarily mean your pup will end up with a good bite.  It is quite hard to pick a good bite on an 8 week old puppy.  Get a written guarantee of a monetary refund if your pup develops a bad mouth.  This is especially important for the purchaser that is considering showing or breeding the dog.

4.    The sire should have two apparently normally testicles fully distended into the scrotum.   It could be expensive to sterilize a dog that has retained testis, compared to a normal dog.

5.    The parents should be predominantly white as should the pup.

6.    The parents should have folded ears as should the pup.
